Yuri Mizobuchi
Born in Japan, Yuri Mizobuchi studied musicology at Osaka University and singing with Professor Tsuyako Mitsui at the University of Arts in Kyoto, where she completed her master’s degree with distinction. Supported by scholarships from several foundations, she continued her studies with Professor Charles Spencer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, again graduating with distinction. She also studied with Ljerka Cenčić and attended masterclasses with Kammersängerin Christa Ludwig, Roger Vignoles and Susan Manoff.
She was a prizewinner at the International Franz Schubert Competition in Steyr and the Mozart Competition in Japan, and a finalist at the International Johannes Brahms Competition.
Mizobuchi has lived in Berlin since 2014 and works across a wide range of artistic fields. Collaborations with Patrick Faurot and Pablo Volo helped her develop her physical expressiveness, and she continues to explore her own performance practice, which can also be seen on her YouTube channel. At the Neuköllner Oper, she worked on the European premieres of two works by Japanese composer Kōsaku Yamada, taking the leading roles herself. At the Konzerthaus Berlin, she portrayed the snake in Iván Fischer’s The Gruffalo. She regularly performs with Berliner Schlosskonzerte, the Berliner Frauen-Vokalensemble and the vocal quintet Les Fleurs du Mal.
Her German translation of Tatsuzō Ishikawa’s Japanese science-fiction novel Die letzte Utopie was published by Mitteldeutscher Verlag in 2025.
